Vatican Necropolis, from very ancient tradition, is recognised as the place of burial of the apostle Peter who should have suffered martyrdom in the nearby Horti Nero. The site, located under the Basilica of St. Peter in the Vatican, below the level of the Vatican caves, in correspondence of the central nave of the same basilica, is a Roman cemetery, next to the circus of Nero, where pagan and Christian tombs coexist since it remained in use from the 2nd to the 4th century.

Due to lack of availability of the tickets, you will be informed about the certain time of your visit after the confirmation of Excavations office (Ufficio Scavi )
Please note:
- Visitors must be 15 years old, without exception.
- Each group is composed of around 12 participants, according to their language.
- The guided tour lasts about an hour and a half, and conducted by one of the specialised guides.
IMPORTANT:
1. For the respect due to the original tomb of the apostle Peter, the clothing must be suitable for the sacred place: for men only long pants, for women pants or skirts below the knee, shoulders covered for all.
2. For all the archaeological site and the sacred area, it is forbidden to carry any bulky items (suitcases, backpacks, large bags, cameras ...), even if the police control has passed.
Meeting point:
The Excavations Office, that is accessible only by Bernini's colonnade (on the left in front of the St Peters Basilica), entrance to Via Paolo VI. You need to present there the confirmation of your visit, that you will receive from us.
Please, arrive at the meeting point at least 5 minutes before the scheduled time of your visit. Please dont forget to bring the valid ID document / Passport for the possible inspection.
